Food Science
Do you like to cook? Do you like to play with our food? If so, then you are a food scientist! Food scientists make the food we eat taste good, look good and good for us.
The food common to every culture around the world is bread. Breaking bread with another person is a sign of friendship and trust. We will investigate the basis of bread - yeast! If you look closely at a piece of bread you will see lots of tiny bubbles. The gas released by the yeast caused these bubbles. Yeast is actually a tiny organism that causes bread to rise and get fluffy. Yeast also provides bubbles for another favorite food - root beer!
First we will explore what causes yeast to make all those bubbles and then you will make a delicious treat using yeast.
