EDUCATION

Glo DeAngelis, Vice President, Education and Outreach
Glo has been involved in museum and theater education for 14 years, creating classes, exhibits, stage shows, teacher workshops, public programs, summer camps, web resources and educational music for preK-adult audiences, focusing on making science, poetry and history programs fun and exhilarating for kids and adults.  She was Program Manager of the Boston Museum of Science's Discovery Center.  Among her many other accomplishments, Glo directed, co-wrote and produced "Gotta Move: The Great Big Motion Show", a high-energy, musical science show funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services. This show has been presented to over 35,000 students. Glo has been a consultant to a wide variety of educational companies, institutions and museums.

Jason Freeman is the Director of the Coalition for Science After School.  He is headquartered at the Lawrence Hall of Science, at the University of California at Berkeley.  Previously, Jason served as an Education Specialist in the Informal Education Division at NASA Headquarters where he was involved in management of the NASA Explorer Institutes for 2004 and 2005.  He also managed distribution of the NASA and Afterschool Programs report produced by the American Museum of Natural History in 2005.  Among his projects were efforts connected to community partnerships for extracurricular opportunities, hands-on science education through design challenges, and promoting learning through new media, such as electronic gaming.

Beth Snoke Harris has been in science education for over 10 years, as a physics teacher, then outreach coordinator for The Science House at North Carolina State University, and now as a science educator at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute.  She has also judged countless science fairs throughout the years. Beth has written 5 science books for children.  Her most recent will be another science fair book that focuses on green science.

Alison Bauer is in her 6th year as the science specialist at Spring Hill Elementary School in McLean, VA.  Before settling with science she made the tour of elementary school, teaching kindergarten, first, third and sixth grades in Fairfax and Arlington, Virginia and the desert of Southern California.  She has also facilitated professional development courses through the Center for Technology and Education of Johns Hopkins University.  She owes her passion for science to the monarch butterflies who taught her that asking questions about something unknown is what lifelong learning is all about.

 

SCIENTIFIC

Dr. Michael Allen is Director of Inpatient Psychiatry, University of Colorado Hospital and Associate Professor of Psychiatry, University of Colorado. He has received extremely laudatory reviews for bringing an academic flair to rater training in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and agitation in domestic as well as European training contexts. He is a Past President and Trustee of the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry and he is Editor in Chief of Emergency Psychiatry. He has published and presented data at scientific meetings in the fields of psychiatric emergencies, suicidality, bipolar disorder and substance abuse.

John Bartko, PhD has served as Professor of Statistics for the Maryland Psychiatry Research Center, University of Maryland School of Medicine, a statistical consultant to various pharmaceutical companies, and as the Statistical Editor of the American Journal of Psychiatry. In addition, Dr. Bartko has made statistical contributions to the preparation of scientific and FDA material for over 20 medical products.

Laura Copeland Flynn, MS served as Vice President of Operations and Industry Relations, Glonal Learning, LLC. She has a masters of science in clinical research design and biostatistics and a background in physiology and CNS drug discovery. Ms. Copeland Flynn has provided monitoring and other clinical support services to numerous large pharmaceutical companies and various independent clinical research companies and foundations. She has served as a project manager for numerous large multi-center clinical trials in the therapeutic areas of schizophrenia and stroke. Ms. Copeland Flynn served as a clinical research associate for a large multi-center Alzheimer’s disease trial; she has been involved in two New Drug Application submissions; and has extensive experience in protocol development, clinical trial management, clinical research monitoring, medical writing, and quality assurance audits.

Dr. Phillip Harvey, PhD has supervised cognitive testing in more than 20 industry sponsored clinical trials. He is Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Harvey is considered a leading global authority in the applications of cognitive testing in clinical trials.

Carol Tamminga, MD is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern, President of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and co-founder of the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research. She has served as Chairperson of the FDA Psychopharmacology Advisory Committee.

Dr. Steve Wolf is a board certified neurologist and served as Director, Neurology Consultation Service of the D.C. Department of Mental Health. He is an author of numerous publications in neuropsychiatry, including “Neuropsychiatric Aspects of Movement Disorders” in the seventh edition of the Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry. Dr. Wolf is a former senior investigator in the Clinical Brain Disorders Branch of the NIMH.

BUSINESS

Steven Simon Marks is a practicing certified public accountant and former revenue officer and criminal investigator for the Internal Revenue Service. He also is an academic lecturer.

Ann Walthall was Senior Vice President of Operations of Darwin Networks, Vice President of Engineering and Operations at Appriss, a technology services company, and Chief Administration Officer of Providian Capital Management.
