Scholars Program I: Creative Writing

Creative Writing Scholars: Five talented 5th and 6th graders met twice monthly with author Susan Shreve to share, discuss and improve their creative writing. Susan is a highly accomplished author of more than 14 books who is also a professor at George Mason University. The creative writing Scholars have explored many different forms of writing, from the fiction that they all know and love, to forms that are new to them, such as plays and children’s stories. In addition they’ve learned how to constructively criticize their peers in a seminar setting.

Spring Hill has invited the program back for the 2008-2009 school year. Author Erica Perl will lead the creative writing Scholars Program, which we will also bring to children at Webb-Wheatley Elementary School in Washington, DC, beginning this fall. Webb-Wheatley serves a low-income, minority population (94% of the students are eligible for the free or reduced lunch program) and we are excited to offer them this unique opportunity.
